Solange - Loosing You

Solange is officially sublime. One of my coolest friends showed this video to me (thank you Maya, for helping me keep up with music). Her little dances and the styling of this video just do it for me. Plus look at that hair!

...Yeah, so I haven't been blogging enough these days but that should change in a month or five. I promise it's with good reason :)

Have a lovely weekend!

Ps: It was shot in Cape Town!

Blogs: Pamba Boma

Pamba Boma! I like that name. Try saying that 20 times, 8 times as fast.
While stalking my friends on facebook researching on local design blogs I came across Pamba Boma which is an interior design blog (how exciting eh?). According to their website, 'Pamba Boma' is Swahili for ‘decorate your home’*

Wicked Games

Thanks to the awesome up-to-date sister I have, I heard this yesterday. Well actually I heard the older version but I heard this version just now and I love it. I love both the original and the remastered versions, actually. Is that okay to say these days??

I wonder if you could get pregnant from just listening to song.

Move

Dancing, something we don't normally talk about, but how could I resist?!

Another post about shoes and one bag

As I've said before, I'd die for anything clear.

Simone Rocha's brogues are perfect. Slightly different from seasons passed but her aesthetic is generally the same.

Flats

The other day while going through this months Elle I had an epiphany. Last week I had a dream about some boots I really REALLY want. They're actually a mans shoe from my parents shop (they own a shoe shop in Karen). They kinda look like the picture below but with a gold buckle around the elastic and they're made of your typical not so patent black leather.

I think this is from Style by Kling

A little nonsense

I'm sorry little blog of mine. I didn't mean to abandon you. My mind has been suffocating me. I'm one of those people who freaks out when things don't go according to plan and I'm also one of those people that worries a lot. Well, for the passed two months nothing has being going as planned and the life I envisioned I would have is still just out of reach. That makes me worry. At one point it was so bad I didn't want to do ANYTHING. I got so filled up with doubt that I became numb.

Urgh, yuck, I hate to sound so fragile and sad. In real life I like guns, hockey and I just restarted Modern Warfare 3 on the hardened level, by the way. I'm no softy.

Another Rihanna Cover

I have this complex toward Rihanna, It's like a balancing act between whether I think she's cool or not. Regardless of what side the scales lean on, she intrigues me. I listen to some of her music though but I don't go out of my way to do it. I saw the pictures from Harper's Bazaar August 2012 today and right now I like her, a lot.

Teaser Alert!

Two posts on the same day?? Yup, that's how much free time I have cool I am :)
Guess what we were up to this Sunday?? Photo shoot, OH YEAH! Since this is a tease Imma keep it brief. Our brilliant friend Maria, creative director of Zambarau made those beautiful gloves.

My first

A million years after it's introduction I have finally made my first set on Polyvore, yay! That yay was hollow and cynical (could you tell?). Not being able to actually hold and wear the stuff on a set you just made is really not cool. But it's a fun way to pass the time. Oh man, I miss the warmer January weather.

PS: If you're wondering how I got Maasai sandals on polyvore, I didn't.

Clean

You know how when you discover a blog you just might like you go through roughly 100% of the posts? No? Well, I do that all the time like a crazy fashion-psycho-stalker-person. It's official, after stalki...er, following Ivania Carpio's blog LOVE AESTHETICS, for the past who knows how long, I've been thinking about how brilliant one single human being could be. Today as usual I was looking at latest post, splattered nails. And it hit me, it hit me hard. She has the best DIY's ever, period. Take a look at her blog if you don't believe me.

Recognition

Guess who made it to Vogue Italia? ...no, seriously, guess who?! Imma tell you anyways :)
Poisa did! Oh yeah!

Can't believe I didn't hear about it till yesterday when Annie told me. According to Vogue.it, (shame on me for not knowing), Franca Sozzani, editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, is travelling around our beautiful continent looking for talented designers. It's part of her goal to introduce African products to European markets. Just imagine how awesome it would be if lets say, you go to uni in the UK or Italy and you don't have to wait till the holidays to get your hands on a pair of earrings or a dress by a local designer. If you couldn't tell that makes me all too excited!

All images via Google and Vogue.it

In the post she mentions both John Kaveke and Patricia Mbela. I'm so happy both designers were recognised by a Vogue Veteran (you got a better word?), who also happens to be one I genuinely really like. I really think this could be another step towards better recognition from the Fashion world of our country and continent as a whole.

Do I see a Swahili Vogue in the future perhaps? Don't be cynical, think about it. Why not?

Designer Diaries: Phillip Lim

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to enter a designers mind, take a peek inside their world? Well, I do. Sometimes when you see pictures from the show (because let's face it how many times are we invited to runway shows?) you kinda get the feeling you know where they were coming from. Then there's the other times when you see there work and it's like BAMM!! What the hell was that and why do I freaking LOVE it so much?!

That whole intro was really just a build up for me to say Phillip Lim is amazing. More amazing than the perfect sammich. He worked hard to get where he is now, like many other reputable designers, but the one thing that gets to me the most, is how he gets it  right each and every single time. There is no perfect collection but no joke, I feel something for every piece.

Dude I have to stop this crazy infatuation with apparel and revive my love life outside fashion with actual people... Nah.
Anyone pull off any good pranks?

As promised...

Annie's out at the Fashion Market....Meanwhile, I'm knee deep in nuclear physics. It's time for a break, a break much deserved!

Last week around 5pm, I had had it up to here (gesturing the top of my head) with my camera laptop issues. Argh! ...So I covertly took my sisters cellular device and ran out to see the babies! Like a Boss.
I think it has a 2-megapixel camera so excuse it's ancient technology. behold ladies and gentlemen, PUPPIES!!

Is it too early to pick a favourite?
Quick fact I just experienced, stressed out? get puppies. Ready to be cuddled at all times and small enough for storage. Seriously keep one in your purse, have one in the glove box and one in your pencil case.
I kid, I kid.
Dude, any serious anime fans out there? Apparently Bleach will end this month on the 27th. Yeah, my heart broke too. OH WHY?!

Feeling like this cat right about now.
AOTC

Lately the blog has been pushed to the back burner of my life. Anyway this won't last for long (hopefully another month or too before I'm back to blabbering on expressing my love for anything and everything). My mind has really just been complete chaos for the last two weeks. There's SO much to do. Everything from starting an account for the blog, to completing my university applications has been piling up on my shoulders. To top it all off, my laptop screen is going to be amputated (a part of me dies a little everytime I say that). Unless another exact screen is located or its warranty is found then there really isn't any hope for it :(
Anyone willing to donate a 14inch pavillion screen? ... In the meantime I'll have to survive on my iPod and the dusty, antisocial* family computer. No joke, it rejects CD's, social sites do not load AND the USB ports are dead.

Aside from that the world just lost another legend. I wish I knew more about her. Sleep well Whitney.

On the up and up, PUPPIES! My little Scrufs is the father to six little spitz-mix boys! (which I will take photos of as soon as my laptop comes back). For now I'll close with another Attack of the Cute

This is sort of what they look like.

Have a loevly week!

Dancing With Shadows

I LOVE everything about this editorial. From the airy fabrics to the amount and quality of bare skin to those hard leather boots. Shall I add that Karlie Kloss has to be one of my favourite models? I think I just did.

Ps: don't you just love huge images?? I sure as hell do!

"Craziness is like heaven."

Today I finally finished a - for lack of a better word - biography of Jimi Hendrix.

It can be overwhelming when you think about how someone as kindhearted and gifted was the center of so many genuinely bad people. Not bad, the dark demeanor that we all find attractive, but bad like a parasite that doesn't stop feeding). I hate how it ends: the bad guy wins while the other fades away. One of the things I really would like to be able to do in my lifetime, is to free those gentle souls from their cages and fix all the bad people.

Something to be shared

If you're anything like me then you LOVE a good plate of chips...but hate having to think about the havoc they will wreak. Alas, dear friends, a solution at last!!
While catching up on my daily blog-reading, I came across THIS through Because Im Addicted; Baked Carrot French Fries! OH YEAH!

Good luck with yours!

Flowered Bottoms: The Beginning

As the temperature goes up and hem lines get shorter one thing I'm crushing on right now are printed bottoms, particularly flowers. It's so pretty, but no too much pretty, just the right amount.

The Sartorialist
tuula
I'm thinking of trying it out with my mums shorts which, by the way, you either love or hate. I couldn't have fallen any harder while my sister plays on the hate team. The best thing about them is there are TWO of them!! Naturally I'm dying to put up the pictures but I'm having camera issues, so let's leave this post as Flowered bottoms: THE BEGINNING for now.

oh, and Happy New Year!!

Hair (updated)

No cleverly punned title or smart way to say it. Today's post is exactly just that: Hair, more specifically natural hair.
I've been obsessing over natural hair the last couple of days. The last time I had natural hair I was 7 and it was up to my mum to look after it. I'm dying to try it out, make the commitment (could this be a possible new years resolution?? CHALLENGE...pending...)
But you see, commitment's the problem. At the moment, my hair is relaxed and I'm really REALLY lazy when it comes to my hair. Don't think I take it for granted or abuse it or anything like that, it's just sometimes I won't comb my hair for three days and not be bothered by it (could this post be anymore embarrassing?!).
I like imagining what this head of straightened hair would look like all natural and curly. Annie has this natural beautiful head of hair (which is usually braided most of the time) and the way she maintains it? Magic. The last time I caved and reached out to touch it, it felt like cotton-candy baby hair!

Update: Here's a better picture of what my hair currently looks like.
In my family our house is like a village. At first your taking simple shots of yourself for a hair post on your blog then out of nowhere, BAM! One of the little villagers pounces like a little rabid cat.

A few of the pictures I've saved for inspiration:
Google | Google | Streetpeeper | Kurly Kichana
So far I wouldn't know what natural hair would really be like without Kurly Kichana. Other than the fact that you really get proper insight into hair care, the up's and downs of it all AND transitioning WITHOUT cutting it all off (yes all that good stuff!), the best part about it is....suspense.....drum roll.....more suspense.... it's Kenyan!! OH YEAH, KENYAN YEAH!

Have a lovely Sunday!
