Lagos Fashion Week- Menswear Focus

Where European, American fashion weeks reign supreme in the fashion world, underrated fashion weeks in the world go on with spectacular shows rarely reported on internationally, specifically in Africa.
If you are within the international community, you may not know that this is Africa's (unofficial) fashion season; from Nigeria to first timers, Ghana and the obviously well known Mercedes Benz South Africa Fashion Week.
Yes, its a lovely time.

Though I decided to do things differently, I really love men's fashion I do and I applaud the revolution its going through at the moment (in case you don't know the Revolution sounds something along the lines of, "LIVE A LITTLE!") So as a strong unrelenting supporter of that cause, I've decided to round up my favourite Menswear line from Lagos fashion and design week (Nigeria)



Kelechi Odu- This line is basically saying relax and I love it, inspired by resort life and Spain (there were *subtle hints of some tassles somewhere) it was one of the more successful Menswear collections of the Lagos season.

How to: It must be Winter

Lets face it its raining and the other day the lightening took down a tree. Some of you could be like me at this moment , totally unprepared for the weather and you know how bad its been when hailstones are beating down your car.

Every time this season arrives i want to be a dude,  the season is just so awesome for their style and.... just see for yourself 

PS: drag your brother, father, nephew or boyfriend to the screen, some Kenyan men have a habit of seeing the cold season as an excuse to look like they were went for camp 16 years ago and never changed.

About the Gentleman

So fashion market....

I so did not end up going, i really have to tell Chezza that, i was so busy !!

So we have mocks in school and i am stuck in a creative rut until i saw Kenya's top designers making a statement out there for us. I am talking about the Arise Magazine fashion week. I saw Kaveke's work and Patricia Mbela (who Chezza had the opportunity of working under, how many people can say that?) Any way i really like how Kaveke focused on Menswear this time. The prints, the bold colour and those blazers!! I was speechless. We rarely see menswear from our designers, so i was pleasantly surprised.

Oh African prints, people are beginning to take notice. I love how Kaveke incorporated this seasons hottest colour ORANGE and created a rustic- ish/ colourful line.
I cant wait to see who's found wearing this line, my money's on the ever fashionable Nick Mutuma.

Yo. I wasn't actually planning on posting anything today but while procrastinating (ahem) gathering research I came across this article.

The Talks

I really admire The Sartorialist and Scott Schuman but the way he comes across in the article broke my heart a little. There is a lot of truth in what he says but at the same time there's a HUGE difference between telling someone you prefer something else on them and telling them you abhor their look. Get what I mean?
Not only was he cut-throat, he was more like kick, stab, slit-throat, shove-cheese-grater-down-throat, push-fingers-through-automatic-sharpener and rip-off-head...(okay, yeah I should stop that)...spit on remains
I think I'll get back to work...or I could get back to gathering some more research ;)

I know what I said, ''you would get everything posted here from Kenya''. In this case, I lied. C'mon Christopher Bailey totally kills when it comes to fashion; I had to mention him! Burberry Prorsum fall 2011 freaking slapped me in the face! I'm talking menswear!!

With this season of ours (which is acting weirdly, I mean its supposed to be summer!) being unusually cold, I was thinking of posting something to deal with this weather FASHIONABLY and I fell upon this editorial featuring Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011 on GQ Japan.

If I were a boy...

I think I'd be Nicholas Wooster, definitely. He's so cool, like a fictional sartorial-badass hero. I'm not even gonna tag him as a Silly Little Freak, he's WAY more cooler than that. I'd love to have as many tattoo's across my arm as he does and not face execution by mother supreme. 

..or Karl Edwin Guerre of  former Swagger 360 now Guerreisms. Sometimes when I look at him, he sort of seems fictional too, like he walked out of a fifties-sixties movie.

Maybe be even Milan Vukmirovic (I kid you not, every time I've googled is his name I've gotten the spelling wrong). I'm sorry, it's a beautiful name though.

PS: As a girl, I still love dressing up as a boy. Fashion is really all about self expression so it really doesn't matter whether you shop in the women's wear section or the men's as long as it makes you feel awesome.
