Daydream Nation- Princess Chelsea, Cigarette Duet

This video is not the usual generic stuff, ( oh how I can hear the resounding accusation that i'm a hipster) but I love it! At first you may be like, um, woah what the Santa Claus but hang in there, its actually quite awesome and the message at the end of the video is so funny.

I absolutely adore Princess Chelsea, and this duet is so adorable (see what I did there, hardy har!) and this song just gets stuck in your head. Warning Earworm!

Here is New Zealand lady, Princess Chelsea with The Cigarette Duet.

Daydream Nation- Alpine, Villages

GAH!

I love Alpine when I found them I think I overstayed on Youtube, their sound is so surreal and yum (i'm out of adjectives)
It just feels like i'm eating dreams with my eyes!!!! Mmh... that sounds weird.

So before I sound weirder here's Aussie band Alpine with the song Villages.

Nairobi Fashion Market- Finally!

Having delayed my older sister leaving the house to go to the fashion market because of a fixation on  watching Jimmy Kimmel Experiments on YouTube that involved breaking kids hearts, yeah i'm just that kind of person, I finally got ready and left the house with a pissed off sister, whose friend by the way was waiting on her.

After a series of unfortunate and hilarious events (including being a blogger whose camera pulled a disappearing stunt and coming to the sad conclusion that I would have to use my very unprofessional phone for pictures) we ended up at Impala with my little sister who was forced to attend it with us when my parents picked us up in the blistering heat waiting on a jav...
I must say from the entrance I was a bit discouraged thinking that we would be 5 people at the event,  it was nearly empty despite the numerous cars parked outside, however once inside, I realized that the tents enclosed everyone inside, therefore explaining the apocalyptic feel of the entrance.

Designer Diaries: Boxing Kitten

Someone once told me that they hated and i mean hated African stuff when it comes to fashion. To be honest there was a time in my life when i would have agreed but as i grew and looked more for inspirations around me i realised i had been a complete idiot the whole time. So i recently have made a pact with myself... i shall embark on a journey to change peoples minds (it's unfortunate that i was not on a windy mountain talking to my private army when i said this but hey...) With this series, i will keep you in touch with the very creative African - inspired designers and their work.
And who better to start with than BOXING KITTEN?

So the designer may not be African herself but she has studied African - American cultures and uses Ankara fabric from West Africa.  Brooklyn born Maya Amina Lake is none other than the amazing lady behind these designs.

Maya's work is inspired by Vintage clothing from the 50's and 60's (which automatically makes her my most favourite person in the world) She has been sweeping successful - Boxing Kitten has been featured in magazines like Vogue, been seen on red carpets, also celebrities like Solange and Beyonce Knowles, Fergie have been spotted wearing the brand.

The thing with these pieces is that they are so versatile and fresh in the fashion world since prints are in and also African Fashion has always played the underdog part hence its success, her inspirations merge African Culture with a fashionable era a little case of mix and match. Check out their WEBSITE and marvel at more of Maya's stuff.

The Thrifter pt. 1

So i went shopping this weekend. I am still putting together my vintage collection and its so much fun, piece of advice though - totally make a list of what you want or you will be exasperated and end up with things you did not intend to buy in the first place.  So i trekked the dusty large scale flea markets of Toi and Ngara to the swanky stores in upscale shopping malls in search of my fashion fix.

Ngara

Maybe people like it for various reasons but this had to be one of the worst experiences in my life. Everything was disorganised, vendors grabbed your hand in order to force you to buy their stuff which was quite overpriced. There is no way you can get over the disorganisation of it all. It took me hours to find what i wanted and i only got 2 items!!!

What i got

The treasure was worth all the trouble.

Quilted handbag Kes 450/=
I wish I could get the Chanel version, but for a young fashion blogger in a little known country, this will have to do, but I love it anyway. The texture is insane! The colour, deep and mysterious and yes I was showing of the impressive perfume collection in my home ah, the perks of duty free stuff.

Keep you posted!

Gypsies and Caravans

There is no question that I am in love with Vintage clothing. Remember when I talked about starting a vintage collection? No, I don't mean designing one, I am no designer like Chezza  (in case you did not know) I was talking about vintage items I intend to hunt for. For some reason, they are not stocked in the mainstream shops, that means thrift shopping is how I have to go about this. But Vintage accessories can be found at mainstream stores like Mr. Price, Truworths, 4U2 and the like.

With vintage, I see it almost as if it has different genres within the genre like Rock music so here is one vintage look I am loving - The Gypsies
